Teatro Francesco di Bartolo - Via F.lli Disperati, 4 (T. 0587.724548 – teatrodibuti@ teatrodibuti.it). Intitolato al poeta butese del secolo XIV, autore fra gli altri suoi lavori del primo commento sulla Divina Commedia, sorse nel 1842 ad opera di alcune agiate famiglie butesi riunitesi in associazione per favorire lo sviluppo culturale del paese. La struttura del teatro è quella cosiddetta “all’italiana”, con pianta a ferro di cavallo e due ordini di palchetti, oltre alla platea e naturalmente al palcoscenico. I palchetti erano di proprietà delle famiglie dell’aristocrazia del luogo, mentre i meno abbienti non avevano diritto ad entrare nell’edificio. Nel Novecento il teatro venne adibito a cinematografo, ma la struttura conobbe un momento di sostanziale decadenza, finché nei primi anni ’70 ne fu decretata la chiusura. Appena pochi anni dopo, però, vennero iniziati gli interventi di restauro da parte dell’Amministrazione Comunale, che nel 1987 restituì il teatro all’antico splendore. In pochi anni il teatro, ora della capienza di 220 posti, si segnalò come un importante centro di produzione e diffusione di attività culturali fra le più originali nel panorama italiano del settore. La politica intrapresa è volta sia alla conservazione delle tradizioni del teatro popolare, sia a promuovere forme di ricerca e sperimentazione. L’Associazione Teatro Buti, gestore del teatro, promuove ed organizza una stagione ricca di rassegne che si caratterizzano per la loro non omologabilità (come ad esempio il Festival “Piccoli Fuochi”).

Named after the poet of Buti of the fourteenth century, author among his works of the first comment of the Divine Comedy, was built in 1842 by some wealthy families of Buti gathered together to promote the cultural development of the country. The structure of the theatre is the so called “Italian style” with a horseshoe plan and two sets of stands, in addition to the pit and of course the stage. The stands were the property of the aristocratic families of the place, while the poor had no right to enter the building. In the twentieth century the theatre was used as a cinema, but the structure went into a decline, when the closured was forced in the early’70s. A few years later, however, the restoration work were carried out by the municipality and in 1987 the theatre was brought back to its splendour. In a few years, the theatre, now the capacity of 220 seats, was named among the most important Italian Theatre for the production and dissemination of original cultural activities. The activity directed to promote forms of research and experimentation as well as to maintain the popular traditions. The Association of Theatre Buti, running theatre, promotes and organizes a season full of reviews that distinguish themselves for not being homologably them (such as the Festival “Small Fires”).
